UK Street Artist Takes Recycling to New Heights

My Dog Sighs, a street artist who hails from the island city of Portsmouth, UK, wants you to take a piece of him home. Literally. As part of his Free Art Friday movement, the “Can Man” started leaving portrait art on the street for any finder to grab and enjoy—for free. The best game of Finders, Keepers ever! Rescuing tin cans from the blue bin, My Dog Sighs has found an ingenious way to create a conversation piece. Once flattened, the cans are taped off and given a base coat of spray paint, thereby creating the perfect canvas for Mr. Sighs to paint any number of clever, intriguing faces. The can art is just one component in his varied portfolio, and Free Art Friday has spread worldwide with thousands of artists taking part in their own neighborhoods. Mr. Sighs is active on Facebook, Twitter (#canman, #freeartfriday, #mydogsighs), and Flickr for those interested in seeing more of his compelling work. Via Visual News.
For the artist, [Free Art Friday] is an opportunity to create work free from the constraints of commerce, to voice an idea, shout a political message or just amuse and confuse the viewer.”
