The Decelerator – A Slow Motion Perception Helmet

The Decelerator helmet by German artist Lorenz Potthast allows the wearer to perceive the world in slow motion. The stream of time is under the users control, who can speed it up and slow it down simply by turning a dial.

The helmet has a small computer that uses a video signal from a camera to slow down what the user sees using a head mounted display.

The project is meant to provide the user with heightened awareness about his personal relationship to time, accomplished by transforming time into a constructed, artificial state.
