Addressing the world’s rising sea levels, Russia-based architectural firm Remistudio has designed this Noah’s Ark-inspired floating hotel. The Ark is a floating biosphere that provides escape from climate change effects such as extreme floods. The eye-catching arch-shaped structure is able to exist autonomously and float along the surface of the water.
The concept, which can be built in a variety of climates, was designed with the International Union of Architects’ “Architecture for Disaster Relief” program. The frame is prefabricated in order to allow for very fast construction and features a green, self-sustaining environment so that inhabitants can survive for several months at a time. The shell-shaped hotel can also withstand tidal waves and other kinds of natural disasters.
The Ark features solar panels and a rainwater collection system to provide those on board with power and water. The building’s shell-shape evenly distributes its weight so it not vulnerable to earthquakes.
The lush vegetation will help with air quality and provide sources of food.
