Retired Russian Woman Decorates Her Home With 30,000 Bottle Caps

A retired woman has found a creative way to brighten up her simple wooden house in the Russian village of Kamarchaga in the Siberian taiga. Using plastic bottle caps that she has collected over several years, Olga Kostina makes colourful mosaics on the outside walls of her house.

The Siberian taiga is an area known for its natural beauty, but also has a population density of only three people per square kilometre. Olga enjoys collecting the bottle caps as a hobby to pass time, and when she gets enough she starts to decorate. Using just a hammer and some nails, and inspiration from traditional macrame motifs, she creates the detailed patterns. Olga plans to continue until every wall of her home is covered in a colourful bottle cap mosaic. [Yahoo]
