Like many other household items that can now be controlled through your smartphone (thermostat), so now can your light bulbs. Philips has announced that it will begin selling their Philips Hue LED bulbs exclusively through Apple stores.
Not only do these light bulbs and companion app allow you to control the timing of your lighting, but also the color. The bulbs, which can also be controlled remotely, can display typical hues of white, but also a variety of colors. Using the app, you can take a color sample from anything in your home and create your very own customized light environment. Simply screw the bulbs into your standard light sockets and connect them to your wi-fi network.
Philips recommends even using the bulbs on a preset timer to wake you up in the morning, rather than the shock of the alarm clock, “Set your lights to gradually brighten over time, waking you up in a rather more civilized fashion. Better still, why not create a scene from the image of a dawn sun and turn hue into your own personal sunrise? That’s something worth getting up for.”
