At the Heart of It: Paper Bird Anatomy

Twenty-four-year-old Diana Beltran Herrera has been busy building her reputation in the realm of paper arts since graduating from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogota, Colombia, with a degree in industrial design. Herrera’s sculptures are intricate, sometimes playful reproductions of birds and creatures, but her most recent designs are, thus far, among her most impressive. The sculptures in the “Paper Bird Anatomy” series take the beauty of her birds a step further, depicting the inner workings, i.e., the guts, of her winged beasts, incorporating the use of paper and vinyl to give the viewer a new way to appreciate Herrera’s dedication to her craft. For more examples of her work, be sure to check out her Flickr page.
