Berlin-based photographer Michael Hughes has created this series of photos in which he places travel souvenirs in front of their world famous landmarks. Hughes discovered this unusual optical illusion technique in 1998 and has since perfected it after traveling to hundreds of famous sights.
Hughes has released a book that features 20 photos out of the series, including the most favorited ones on Flickr. The Souvenirs book has been designed and produced by Fivefootsix in London. You can see more of Hughes souvenir photography on Flickr.
I used to be a souvenir snob and I’d only buy the most expensive ornaments. Now I’ve turned that on its head by using cheap ones and doing this childish idea of putting them in the picture.
