Hospitals can be a scary place for children, particularly if they’re there as patients. Designer Jason Bruges has created an interactive exhibit meant to alleviate some of that fear as kids head to the operating theatre in the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, UK.
The project, called Nature Trail, covers hallway walls in the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building and features custom-designed wallpaper and integrated LED panels. The panels are embedded in the walls at various heights so they’re accessible to young patients as they move through the corridors, and interactive light “animal movements” can be seen through the walls’ forest patterns. The installation, designed to both calm and engage children during what could be a fraught time, uses 72,000 LED lights.
