Inspired by that spotty test used to determine color blindness, “Chopped” tables are quirky and functional. Based in Tel Aviv, design studio Yuval Tal offers three sizes for Chopped, which are made of lacquered beech dowels of varying lengths wrapped tight and held in place with a metal ring, thereby negating the need for screws or glue to hold everything together. The close arrangement of the dowels (their ends painted in orange, gray, or green) means the table has a smooth, even top—and while it might not be perfect for use as a writing surface, it is plenty stable for guests to rest a glass or plate during those impromptu get-togethers.
