First Bionic Eye Coming to the U.S. Market

After many years of research, the FDA is about to approve the first bionic eye ever for sale in the US. The retinal prosthesis, which is already available in Europe, is able to restore partial sight to people suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disorder that leads to blindness.

The Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System, developed by Second Sight Medical Products, has already helped recover sight to over 60 people and it won’t be too long before Americans will also be able to benefit from the prosthetic device.
