Feisty, Game-Inspired Cigarette Papers Remind Users that Life is Finite

One of the lead designers at Altima Web Systems, German Ljutaev is clearly a guy with a sense of humor (and affection for his nicotine-addicted friends). He’s created a cigarette with spunk: the paper is printed with a “life meter,” similar to one you might find in your favorite video game. The harder you puff, the more hearts you burn—literally—until you reach the near end of the cigarette and are asked if you want to continue the game. With the default answer of “yes,” it doesn’t take a health official—or a graphic designer—to remind you that smoking is bad for your overall sustainability, but this is a fun way (without the pictures of rotten teeth, blackened lungs, or exploded heart vessels) to help the addicted rethink their drug of choice.
