Beached Whale Stranded in Argentinian Forest

One can’t help but feel disturbed by the image of a whale stranded on land, laying in pain, feeling utterly helpless as it slowly dies. My Family Dead is the title of this whale sculpture created by Argentina-based artist Adrián Villar Rojas in the spring of 2009.

The piece was made for the Biennial of the End of the World, which challenged artists to focus on the relationship between mankind and climate, and its threatening effects. The enormous sculpture, consisting of wood, clay, and rocks, is 28 meters long and sits in the middle of the Bosque Yatana forest in Ushuaia, Argentina.
