Upwell, a non-profit ocean conservation agency, asked Enpundit to help spread awareness about something alarming that is happening in the world’s oceans.
Due to increasing levels of carbon dioxide in seawater, the very design of the ocean is changing. Many organisms like mollusks, corals, and other invertebrates rely on calcium carbonate to properly build their exoskeletons. Decreasing pH levels (increasing acidity) makes it so these organisms cannot.
The powerful before-and-after photographs below were shared as evidence of ocean acidification at the 2012 International Coral Reef Symposium in Australia. Please help Upwell spread awareness about ocean acidification by sharing these before-and-after photos and starting the conversation about ocean conservation.
