Lake Como, located in Lombardy, Italy, is popular as a tourist destination as well as a getaway for the über rich. If this 5,630 sq. ft. house is any example of the homes along Italy’s third largest lake, it’s obvious that the Italians take their architecture and design very seriously. Requiring a complete renovation from floor to roof, the focus of the Studio Marco Piva project was on “light colors and natural materials,” as evidenced by the prevalent use of glass to enhance the open concept of the living space.
The contemporary design, both in furnishings and design, is augmented by modern fixtures, most notable in the lighting accents, marble and tile bathroom, and uncluttered yet functional kitchen. Though the house has a distinct show-home feel, it is not austere or cold; on the contrary, the space, through unity of natural light and complementary colors, feels cozy and inviting, the perfect place to unwind after a fun day of sailing.
