Natural Phenomena by Reid Gower is a breathtaking time-lapse video that reminds all who watch it just how beautiful this world really is. I just love the contrast between the serene nature scenes and the dense urban scenes filled with lights and skyscrapers, both incredibly beautiful in their own right.
The footage was filmed over the course of six months in various countries all over the world including the US, Austria, Canada, France, Poland, Turkey, and Germany. Reid captured the space footage using a GoPro camera contained inside a thermal lunchbox with a GPS attached to a balloon.
Reid describes the video’s meaning, “Humans are part of the natural order. We’re risen apes that acquired language and learned to use tools. Skyscrapers and spacecraft may seem unnatural, but they’re just as much a part of the natural order as beaver dams and bird nests. Boring electrical lines hint at the energy solution of a mammalian species. Open your eyes to the world you’ve grown accustomed to, and rejoice in the fact that you can participate in the human project.”
You will definitely want to watch this in full-screen.
