Seated on a 43,000 sq. ft. lot in Dilesi, Boeotia, Greece, amongst cypress, olive, and oleander trees is an art studio /gallery designed by Greek architectural firm A31 for artist Alexandros Liapis whose own home is just feet away. Built with reinforced concrete, the space—an absolute dream for any working artist—has been carefully engineered to serve the artist’s many needs: workspace, storage, and of course, exhibition/gallery area. The arched entry, faced with floor-to-ceiling glass, floods the structure with natural light, augmented by sconces when the sun sinks behind the horizon. A31′s philosophy centers around “functionality, structural accuracy as well as detail” to create buildings that have “simple forms, pure lines and unobstructed spaces, suitable to the needs of particular landscapes.”
